HOUSE ON THE MEDITERRANEAN

Spain 2019-2022

A steep cliff overlooking the sea unfolds southward, protected from the north wind by a mountain of pines, oaks and cork oaks. At one hundred meters above sea level, the house overlooks one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Mediterranean, where the horizon meets the pine forests that descend towards a rocky peninsula that divides and protects two small coves of intense blue and green. The landscape, which strangely evokes so many other places visited, remembered or dreamed of, is framed by deep loggias and terraces from which the views change continuously accompanied by the sound of the wind and the sea. The house, half below earth, built only with concrete mixed with local earth and stone pavements, unexpectedly becomes its own autobiography, recalling projects and architectures of other times and places, fragments of experiences and sensations already lived or imagined, in an implicit recognition that all architecture originates, ultimately, somewhere in memory.
